What you're owed

Distance sets the amount. Not the ticket price.

Flight distanceUK261EU261
Up to 1,500 km£220€250
1,500 to 3,500 km£350€400
Over 3,500 km£520€600

Per passenger. Flights over 3,500 km that stay within the EU, or within the UK, get the middle amount. The airline can pay half on flights over 3,500 km that arrived 3 to 4 hours late, and when it rebooked you onto a flight that got in close to your original time.

Tenerife is 2,932 km away, so a long delay there is worth £350. New York is 5,540 km away, so a long delay there is worth £520.

Questions

Plain answers.

How much can I claim?

£220, £350 or £520 per passenger under UK261, or €250, €400 or €600 under EU261. It depends on how far the flight goes, not what you paid for the ticket.

Which flights are covered?

Flights leaving the UK or the EU on any airline, and flights arriving in the UK or the EU on a UK or EU airline. Iceland, Norway and Switzerland count as part of the EU for this.

How late does my flight need to be?

For a delay, you usually need to reach your final destination 3 or more hours late. A cancellation usually qualifies if the airline told you less than 14 days before, unless it rebooked you onto a flight that got in close to your original time. Being bumped off an overbooked flight qualifies too.

How far back can I claim?

Up to 6 years in England and Wales, and 5 years in Scotland. We check flights from the last 6 years.

What are "extraordinary circumstances"?

Things outside the airline's control, like bad weather, air traffic control restrictions, security problems or strikes by airport staff. The airline doesn't have to pay for those, but it has to prove them. Technical faults and strikes by the airline's own staff don't count, so those claims still stand.

Does Money Badger charge a fee?

Not during the beta. The airline pays you directly and we charge nothing.

Why not just claim from the airline myself?

You can, and it's free. We save you the reading, the letter writing and the chasing, and we escalate if the airline says no.

What do you do with my Gmail?

Connecting Gmail is optional. We ask Google for read-only access, search only for airline emails, and keep only the flight details. We never store your emails, and our staff never read them. You can disconnect at any time. The beta terms have the details.

Can I withdraw a claim?

Yes, at any time in the app or by emailing us. You can delete your account at any time too.
